The Communications and Marketing Team - What We Do

The team has a wide-ranging remit for internal and external communications and marketing.

1. Media Relations
We act as the City Council's press office and deal with around 1,000 enquiries a year from journalists representing local, national and technical media along with film companies and PR agencies.

All enquiries are logged and our performance target is to reply to 80%+ within one hour and the remainder within the same half day period. All press releases are issued through the unit and are posted on the website.

2. External Communications
The team produces various official council publications - including the quarterly City Life tabloid paper - and co-ordinates departmental publications. The team also has a leading role to play in consultation exercises with local residents and businesses.

3. Internal Communications
Staff in the team are responsible for ensuring that good two-way communications exist with staff. A quarterly  newsletter is produced and regular staff focus groups help ensure that important management information finds its way to staff at all levels of the organisation.

4. City Council Website
Editorial control of the content of the website is another important role and the team undertakes the Webmaster and Moderator functions on the site.

5. Corporate Identity
Clear and consistent branding is important to any large organisation - and no less so to local authorities. Responsibility for the use of the council's corporate identity rests with the team.

6. Marketing
The team helps to co-ordinate marketing of services and activities within the City Council. It also works with outside partners to help promote the City itself to visitors and tourists.
